Support Geert Wilders

As I commented the other day (see: Pat Condell - Shame on The Netherlands), Dutch MP and filmmaker Geert Wilders is to be prosecuted for "inciting hatred and discrimination" towards Muslims and their beliefs.
Now you can show your support for Wilders by visiting The International Free Press Society. There's a page about the campaign to defend Wilders, and please sign this Letter of Protest to the Dutch Government.

There are currently 24174 signatures +1, me.

FREE Partij voor de Vrijheid! The Koran shouldn't be banned. Mein Kampf isn't a 'Holy Book', but it shouldn't be banned either, but you should be able to criticize it and the idiots who agree with it.

As many sane people know, Geert Wilders is NO racist. He is simply against out-of-control immigration; and against immigrants who won't assimilate; and the ones who beat Gays and rape non-Muslim women for not being covered up. He is also very much against the ones who kill their own daughters and sisters for their 'family honor'.

Muslims are not a 'race' anyway, they are followers of a religion/ideology and its Sharia Law. Most Muslims aren't even Arabs, which by the way, is also not a 'Race'.

But their duty is, according to their Koran, to spread Sharia law over the whole Earth. It might take 100-200 years, if they succeed.

Is that the kind of world we want for our great-grand childrens' great-grand children? A Taliban Planet? I bet not. Muslims are the biggest victims of Islam. Wilders is NOT against Muslims, he is against Islamic Fundamentalism.

We all should read the Koran, but be careful, for the Koran prohibits non-Muslims from reading it. I wonder why.

This is BIG, this is REAL BIG! SPREAD THE WORD to the world everyone! The EU Mandarins have crossed the line! If this goes to court, how much more of the public will become aware of this tyranny?
All real freedom starts with freedom of speech. If there is no freedom of speech, then there can be no real freedom.

The Christians and Jews don’t riot when somebody makes fun of Christ or Jews. People must learn to be civilized, and held to account when they are not. Muslims included.

Geert Wilders is a hero spreading the painful truth. He MUST be protected!

I agree with much of what you say USpace. There are worrying trends of religious fundamentalism among many people and cultures, not just the followers of Islam. Other religions, especially the Abrahamic but others too, have ultimate versions of the truth which cannot be questioned.

You say “If there is no freedom of speech, then there can be no real freedom”. The freedom to question or to doubt is precluded by religion, so there can never be freedom by bowing your head.

All things must be open to scrutiny and investigation without reprisal (given a moral constraint not to cause harm). It seems to be a part of human nature to find explanations. To be told ‘the answer is known - you will not question - move along’ kills free thought and must be resisted.

Andy, you're very right. But name another religion which states in its holy book that all non-followers should be converted, subjugated or killed. And if you can, I bet it doesn't have at least 1.4 billion followers. And if it does, I bet it's members aren't committing terrorism in it's name. And if it is, I bet it hasn't inspired over 13,500 acts of terrorism since 9/11.

You're also right about questioning religion. If people question the Koran they can be arrested or killed. The book says it's OK. So it must be.

You are right that few holy books carry so violent a message as the Koran. Though the Old Testament comes close. We have to be careful though. Just as most Jews and Christians are not on murderous rampages, there are many moderate Moslems for whom jihad is not a thought.

I have met many followers of Islam over the years, from the insanely devout to the utterly normal. Though there is often some trepidation when I bring up the topic of religion (which I usually do) if you keep to good humour, rationality and a have degree of patience, most people are happy to talk openly about their faith. Little will be said about hatred, because they do not see things in that way, also they can be just as horrified by events in the world as we are.

There was only one time talking to a Moslem when we did not eventually laugh at our religious disagreements. I have met many Christians with no sense of humour.

As ever it is the extremists on all sides we have to beware of; those who read scripture as literal truth, word for word, rather than metaphorically or historically. These are the people who will feel threatened by questions to their faith and who are the most likely to respond. But that questioning must not be silenced at the whim of so few, to be applied to everyone else. This is why I support Geert Wilders.
