This should be our National Anthem

The current tune is a bit of a dirge isn't it? And few know all the lyrics. There's also talk of dumbing it down. What we need to do is change it.

Many peoples choice for a replacement would be Jerusalem, but in today's politcal climate, that would be misunderstood.

So: there can be only one.

On Ilkla Moor Baht 'at On Ilkla Moor Baht 'at On Ilkla Moor Baht 'at
Now then we would live in a country to be proud of.

Or maybe you prefer...

Let's face it, the whole notion of 'Jerusalem' as a hymn is a fairly substantial misapprehension of just about everything William Blake believed in. Not to mention the fact that the cadences of the melody are rather tricky and it's immediately rendered cacophonous when sung by anybody other than a professional choir.

My personal vote goes to 'One Of Those Days In England' by Roy Harper...

Nah, not enough of a rousing chorus.
I would go with 'Glasto' though (Sorry for the crap link).

Oh, I don't know. The "My love, it seems, so long away since when we both, together, lay..." bit gets me every time and it's worth it all just for the line, 'One of those days in England and there's a sword in every pond' from the extended version.

'Glasto' is one of his best recent songs but the sentiment has been rather compromised by the festival's descent into commercialism. Myself, I'm off to Green Man this year. Much more like it.

I've also been thinking that I'd very much like to hear a psych-folk version of 'On Ilkley Moor Baht'at'.
