Sometimes I despair at religious 'logic'

BBC news reports on the troubles in Egypt quoting Issam al-Aryan, spokesperson and reputedly "A senior member of the Muslim Brotherhood":

"We want a civil state, based on Islamic principles. A democratic state, with a parliamentary system, with freedom to form parties, press freedom, and an independent and fair judiciary,"
Which sounds fine except for the 'Islamic principles' bit which which denies such rights if you happen to be female, or gay, or follow another religion, or you are an apostate, or a non-believer, or an alcohol imbiber, or a cartoonist, or a pork eater, or a dog owner or...

BANG! <head explodes>

I heard this bloke interviewed on the radio whilst driving the other day. I was (but really shouldn't have been....)gobsmacked at his brass necked attitude when pressed on such matters as homosexuality.

He was nearly responsible for an RTA on the A1 northbound, as I gaped at the radio instead of concentrating on my driving.

Fantastic cartoon, by the way. How come political cartoonists can sum up such complex situations without using words? Now, if only politicians could get by without using words; that would be worth seeing.

They say some crazy things Nobbly. Early on in the protest I heard some official denying that plain-clothes police were attacking the crowd because 'some of them were women!'.

Women can't be in the police obviously.
