When I was a youngster my parents bought me a pair of braces to hold up my new trousers. Of course these were 'Trousers to grow into' and without such support I would have been running around bare arsed. The braces were blue and had pictures of planets and rockets and, in the box, was a genuine ticket to the Moon.
I know, because it said so.

Brrrr - it's cold
The North wind doth blow and we shall have snow, And what will poor robin do then, poor thing? He'll sit in a barn and keep himself warm and hide his head under his wing, poor thing.
It's getting colder, there was a picturesque dusting of snow last night. My cats are haunting the house and so am I.
But I have a broken pane in my greenhouse and a squirrel has been burying grain in there, stealing it from the chickens next door. I think nature will find a way to see out the winter.
We've got 2 birdbaths in the back garden but the water in them was a frozen block of ice. Attacking it with a hammer and chisel couldn't move it so I had to soften it up with a kettle of boiling water before I could shift it and refill with 'running' water for the birds.
Someone gave me a large fruit Xmas cake. Naughty me opened it early. I didn't like it so broke it up and scattered it in the backgarden for the birds and the squirrels.
Looked out a couple of minutes later and the dogs who had been watching all this activity with a seemingly disinterested stare were busy scoffing the lot !!!
I always wonder about the wildlife when the weather is frigid.

Duncan, I dare not encourage bird life. I have two hunting cats who bring home enough trophies already but I have never known them to take a squirrel.
ReplyDeleteHowever, never leave a cat alone in the kitchen (or a dog) :-)
Happy Holidays!
